Business Information

Centrally located in the Pacific Northwest, the Columbia Gorge is an ideal location for renewable energy production, manufacturing and research for many reasons. The Columbia Gorge Bi-State Renewable Energy Zone is a five county region straddling the Columbia River in both Oregon andWashington. The area offers qualities such as a broad inventory of industrial property, multimodal transportation, renewable energy technology training, a favorable business climate, and an unbelievable quality of life. Characterized by strong breezes, as windsurfers discovered 30 years ago, the mile-wide Columbia River creates a nearly sea level cut through the Cascade mountain range that draws thermals between two distinct climates: the warm, arid eastern parts and the cool, damp western parts of the region. Rich in natural resources, the area supports agriculture, timber, recreation, and tourism. Technology soon followed as lifestyle entrepreneurs discovered the many benefits of locating here. Today, the area is an attractive place to establish and expand renewable energy industries. discover how your business can reap the benefits of our renewable energy zone

AFFORDABLE INDUSTRIAL LANDS

The Columbia Gorge offers a ready supply of industrial lands for a variety of uses and needs. Affordable shovel ready sites are available, with zoning, permits, utilities and infrastructure in place. Existing building space for small companies are market ready for lease or sale.

WORKFORCE TRAINING

One or the area’s biggest assets is a workforce trained in renewable energy. The Columbia Gorge Community College ’s Renewable Energy Technology program offers the west coast’s first wind technician training, with one-year certificate, twoyear associate degree, plus degree partnerships with Oregon ’s university system.

MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION

The Columbia Gorge offers market access by interstate, river, rail, and air. The area’s close proximity to Portland International Airport and the I-84 (east/west) I-5 (north/ south) corridors offer multiple distribution options to reach all destinations on the west coast and Asia. River barges and rail service round out the transportation options.

QUALITY OF LIFE THAT’S SECOND TO NONE

The Columbia River Gorge contains everything that makes the Pacific Northwest desireable: unrivaled scenic beauty that includes mountains, rivers, and plains, coupled with abundant recreational opportunities. All located in American’s largest National Scenic Area. And the coast is a short trip away. Where else can you enjoy four season outdoor recreation including fishing, hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, year-round skiing and snowboarding, sailing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, rock climbing, waterskiing and wakeboarding, and numerous winter snowsports? Our long-established small communities offer great schools and quality services. Yet our proximity to Portland for big city culture is a boon. It’s hard to find a lifestyle that offers more for today’s active adults and families.
